'Nother Music meme thingie

...gakked from [info]xanphibian

Step 1: Put your MP3 player or whatever on random.
Step 2: Post the first line of lyrics for the first 40 songs that play, no matter how embarrassing the song. (I did 2 lines in most cases)
Step 3: Post and let everyone you know guess what song and artist the lines come from.
Step 4: Strike out the songs when someone guesses correctly.

the songs! )

Hmm. I have pretty mainstream taste in music, I think. With a few notable exceptions.

Have fun guessing!

5 song meme

[info]hellziggy posted this meme in her journal and told us to feel free to do it, so umm, yeah. I'm up, it's 2 am and I'm doin' it. lol.

List five songs you are into right now, no matter what the genre, whether they have words, or even if they're not any good, but they must be songs you're really enjoying now. Post these instructions on your LiveJournal along with your five songs. Then tag five other people to see what they're listening to.

Running Up That Hill by Placebo - Well, they played this song at the end of the Bones ep where Ryan Oneil plays her father and kills the deputy director of the FBI. "If I only could, make a deal with God and get him to swap our places, I'll be runnin up that road, running up that hill." Such a haunting song.

Book of Love by Magnetic Fields - Peter Gabriel did a version of this for the Shall We Dance soundtrack, but he messed with the melody and as much as I like PG, I don't like his version of the song. this one is as close to the version that I do like that I could get. "The book of love is long and boring. No one can lift the damn thing. It's full of charts and facts and figures and instructions for dancing."

Ready for the Storm by Rich Mullins - Rich Mullins was a contemporary Christian music singer. He had some really AWESOME (Hee! He wrote Awesome God) songs out before he was killed and this is one of my absolute favorites. "The waves crash in the tide rolls out. It's an angry sea but there is no doubt that the lighthouse will keep shining out, to warn a lonely sailor. And the lightning strikes and the wind cuts cold through this sailor's bones, through this sailor's soul, til there's nothing left that he can hold, except a rolling ocean."

The Authority Song by John Cougar Mellencamp - Hah! this is just a fun song and it reminds me so much of Dean, it's totally cool. "Well, I fight authority, authority always wins. When I fight authority, authority always wins. Well, I been doin it since I was a young kid and I come out grinnin. When I fight authority, authority always wins!"

Bridge of Sighs by Robin Trower - I read a SPN big bang fic a while back called The Knuckles of the Skinnybone Tree and this song was on the soundtrack for that fic. It's very atmospheric and lonely sounding. It's supposed to play during the scenes where John Winchester is trekking across the desert badlands almost dead from exposure. Old song, before I was born, but still so haunting and gutteral. I love it. Also, I played it for my Eng. II students, and one of my musically inclined students, Demetrius, said to me, "Ms. I like this beat. It's tight." I have no idea what that means, but I think it means the song's good. "The sun don't shine and the moon don't move the tides to wash me clean. Why so unforgiving and why so cold? Been a long time crossing the bridge of sighs. Cold wind blows, and God looks down in anger on this foolish child. why so unforgiving and why so cold? Been a long time crossing the bridge of sighs."

Well. That's certainly an eclectic mix of current fave songs. *shakes head at self*

The instructions say to tag five people: umm, lessee....

Sneaker Pimps

Ok, so Dave let me rip his Sneaker Pimps cd and the song 6 Underground sounded SO familiar. I thought it may have been used on Buffy or Angel. Some Bronze scene or something. Anyway, I've uploaded it to sendspace and this is the link:

Sneaker Pimps - 6 Underground

Also, has anyone read Hyperion and Fall of Hyperion? I've been recc'd these two novels and I'd like to get some info about them.

Thanks y'all.

Music post before beddie bye.

Ok, so some of you all knew of my ridiculous obsession with American Idol last year and the sexiness that was Chris Daughtry. I mean, his thighs alone were worth watching the show for, hello! Beautiful man, he was, with a great voice just MADE for alt/goth rock. He should have been a performer at the Bronze, I'm tellin' ya.

ANYWAY!

His debut album is out and IT KICKS SOLID ASS! His voice is totally awesome. His songwriting is up there with some of the best I've heard, and his band freakin' PLAYS. The man's got a buttload of talent. I have the CD. I'm being nice and uploading three songs from that CD, just to tease you all, so you'll go out and buy the album.

There and Back Again
A fast paced, rockin' song with a slick guitar riff and some serious vocals.

Crashed Into You(acoustic)
"Then I crashed into you. And I went down in flames. Could have been the death of me, but then you breathed your breath in me." Totally awesome.

Breakdown
"Open up the book you beat me with again. Read it out one sentence at a time." That's just the opening line. The vocal range in this, the melody from the guitar and bass, the keyboards. This fast became my favorite.

So enjoy. Good stuff here, I promise. ;)
